Church of Saint Martin
Location, Object
Village of Savognin, Canton of Grisons. Roman Catholic church Son Martegn (St Martin), built 1670–1677, at the initiative of Francesco Maria da Vigevano OFMCap (1605–1692) as part of the Capuchin mission of Rhaetia; restored 1959–1960 and 1996–1997. Richly decorated interior, including painted crossing vault with monumental ‚La Gloria del Paradiso‘ of 1681.

Context
Elevated polygonal wooden pulpit at the southern pilaster of the choir entrance by Gion Tini. Carved sounding board with painted boarded soffit (underside) showing a sun (pictura) and an inscribed frieze (motto).
Authorship, Date
Painted in 1684 by local artist Lici Vital.
Significance
Glorification of Christ as ’sol iustitiae‘.
